A monolithic mobile shelter is being installed in the Ship district of Mykolaiv

On the fourth of November, a monolithic mobile shelter will be installed in the Korabelny district of Mykolaiv. The reinforced concrete structure weighing more than 40 tons was brought from Odessa by truck.

Correspondents of Suspilny visited the place where the new shelter was set up.

The width of the structure is 3.25 meters, the height is 2.70 meters, and the length is 5.30 meters.

Five workers and a lifting crane were used to arrange it.

The mobile shelter is designed for 12 people, ten places, has two exits, says the head of the charitable foundation Ilya Blokhin.

“Here it is calculated that at a distance of ten meters it can fully withstand the flying debris and the blast wave. So this is what the lower plate is intended for. To prevent it from tipping over. The upper plate is 30 centimeters, the lower one is 15 centimeters,” says Ilya Blokhin.

According to Ilya Blokhin, they have already received an application from Mykolaiv city mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych to receive ten more such structures.

One of the postal operators allocated money for the production. Such shelter costs 375 thousand hryvnias.

“This is a shelter so that residents of the city can hide during shelling. The shipping district of the city of Mykolaiv was the most affected by the shelling of the aggressor, so it is the most urgent place where it should be installed,” says the manager of the postal operator Dmytro Kushnir

This is the second shelter provided by the “Youth 2.0” organization as part of the “Save place UA” project.

Odessa activists began to create street shelters for public places

Civic activists from Odesa launched the SafePlaceUA initiative to create mobile street shelters.

They are planned to be placed in public recreation areas, playgrounds, parks, squares, public transport stops, etc.

One of the advantages of mobile shelters, the initiators say, is the minimal cost of use compared to other means of civil defense.

The SafePlace shelter is a box-shaped reinforced concrete structure. The walls are more than 25 cm thick, and the ceiling is 40 cm. Benches will be placed inside, and the doors of the shelter will be armored.

There are options for designs for 12 and 18 people. Shelters will be installed in public places using a crane. In total, the team plans to produce 1,000 shelters for different cities of Ukraine.

Safeplace is a joint initiative of the “Youth 2.0” charitable foundation and the Urban.inst association. Currently, the initiators are collecting funds to create a network of street shelters.
